News agencies are now looking for 'extras' to fill in gaps between the larger news stories. "The pressure to fill 24-hour news channels is so intense these days that we've had to build a substantial reserve of news stories for when the big stories run out.", said a spokesman yesterday. Reuters is actively recruiting people who've had embarrassing tattoos, who's estranged partners have won the lottery or who've had gender reassignment surgery and still live with their families...

Many NHS dental patients in England are being forced to pay for private care, go without treatment or even pull out their own teeth, a survey suggests. The survey of 5,200 patients for an NHS feedback body found 20% had attempted their own repairs and extractions because of high cost and 6% had actually treated others in a bid to save money.
